FCMS Mile
Students involved in the physical education program at FCMS will be running the mile once a week. In fitness testing of students between the ages of 6 and 17 in the state of California, 64% were found to be unfit according to fitness evaluations. Our goal at FCMS is to develop, nurture, and equip students to be physically fit. Part of the fitness program is running the mile once a week in P.E. Class. We will be having a fitness evaluation each week in the running of the mile. Every student will be required to run the mile each week. If a student is absent or ill, they will be required to make up the mile run. Grading the mile will be on an individual basis. We record student’s times each week. There are rewards and incentives for personal improvements. To receive credit for the mile, students need to finish the run within two minutes of their own personal best time.
MAKE UP MILE DAYS FOR JR HIGH ARE TUES AND THURS AT LUNCH and.....
5TH AND 6TH ARE TUES AND FRI AT 1ST BREAK.
ONLY PARTIAL CREDIT WILL BE GIVEN FOR MAKE UP MILES FOR THOSE WHO MISS MILES WITHOUT AN APPROVED EXCUSE. (i.e. 'I just don't want to try today, so I'll make it up later.')
PE Guidelines
1) DRESS REQUIREMENTS:
Students will wear the regulation P.E. shorts and shirt. (These can be purchased from the P.E. office) Students will also need to wear tennis shoes that tie, and white socks. Under garments should not be visible. (SHORTS NEED TO BE PULLED UP TO THE WAIST, NOT TOO HIGH OR WAY TOO LOW.)
OUR EXPECTATION IS THAT EVERY STUDENT DRESS OUT EVERY DAY!
If you forget or for some other reason do not have your clothes, you will still have to dress out for P.E. (You will wear loaners)
On cold days, the teacher will allow you to wear sweat pants and sweat shirts if you choose.
2) ATTITUDE:
P.E. is a cooperative class in that we closely interact with the teacher and other students, whether in games, skills, or drills. We want to encourage each other, as well as compete with other students in a positive manner, so we can all be the best we can be.
3) EFFORT AND PARTICIPATION:
We expect your best effort at all times in P.E. Your effort and participation are a key part of your P.E. grade.
THIS INCLUDES LISTENING TO YOUR TEACHER AND FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS, WARMING UP, AND STRETCHING AT THE BEGINNING OF EACH CLASS.
4) EARNING YOUR GRADE:
Your P.E. grade is based on the following criteria;
a) Dressing out and participating . 50%
b) Skills test and written test 25% (If we have one.)
c) Mile Run 25%
5) WHEN SICK OR INJURED:
If you are sick or injured, and need to be excused from P.E. we need a note from your parents or guardian. A note from home will be good for one week. If you are to be excused for more than 5 days, we will need a medical doctor’s note. Upon your return to class, we will also need a note allowing you to participate in physical activity.
